At Empathia AI, we are committed to fostering inclusivity and supporting the diverse needs of both patients and physicians. Our multilingual support is designed to ensure that language is never a barrier to delivering or receiving quality care. With the increasing diversity in patient demographics, it’s vital to accommodate different languages and cultural backgrounds in healthcare.
Here are three key ways we support multilingual and diverse encounters:
- Conduct encounters in different languages: Physicians can interact with patients in their preferred language, improving communication and trust.
- Generate patient handouts in multiple languages: Provide personalized care instructions and educational materials in a language that patients understand.
- Dictation support with accents and different languages: We ensure that speech-to-text technology works effectively, even with various accents or in languages other than English, making documentation seamless for diverse physicians.
Conduct encounters in different languages
Empathia AI allows you to conduct your consultation in a different language, without additional settings.
For example, if you and your patient both speak in a particular language, the AI will autodetect and pick up on it and generate the note in English (or French).
Tips:
- The AI will use the first few sentences of the encounter to determine the language. For optimal quality, try to start the encounter in a specific language and keep the encounter in one language, but it’s perfectly fine to include and use medical terms in English.
- If you use an interpreter, you can simply select the language in which patient will communicate with the interpreter.

Generate patient handouts in multiple languages
You can also generate patient handouts in the language of the patient so the patient will have an easier time reading it.
Click on the note you wish to generate a patient handout of. Next, click "+ Patient Handout" which is located above and slightly to the right of the note. You will see multiple languages that you can choose from. Below is a visual representation of this.
Dictation support with accents and different languages
Empathia AI will be able to generate a translated note without you having to select which language you and the patient will speak in. However, if you would still like to select a language, you can do so before starting your encounter.
1a) Firstly, select "+New Encounter". You will then see the screen below pop up. Click on the three ellipsis next to the mic icon to select a language. Below is a visual representation of this.
1b) Below is a visual representation of this seen on google chrome extension. The language selection is located next to the mic icon (similar to the portal).
